2012 - in progress
In Lebanon, 30% of the population lives below the poverty line, with 10% living in extreme poverty. With the Syrian refugee crisis, Lebanon is hosting a significant refugee population that is straining resources. The Foodblessed initiative tackles food poverty by rescuing surplus food and distributing it through a network of socially responsible businesses and local communities. Through partnerships, volunteers and events, Foodblessed has served over 250,000 beneficiaries, demonstrating a sustainable model for hunger relief in Lebanon.

Identification needs
In Lebanon, 30% of the population lives under the poverty line (4$/day) with 10% of these living under extreme poverty conditions (less than 2.5%/day). Despite having recorded the highest percentage of poverty in Lebanon, the areas of Beka'a and Akkar receive very little to no attention and/or aid compared to the city Beirut and other areas whose needs might not be as urgent or as big.
Moreover, with the current Syrian refugee situation, Lebanon is safe haven to the highest percentage of Syrian refugees in comparison with other hosting countries – indeed, 1 in every 5 Lebanese residents is Syrian. That's a lot of mouths to feed. Unfortunately, most projects tackling food poverty are fund based and face a wall when funding is out.

Short description
Foodblessed is a local hunger relief initiative, community based, volunteer-driven, Youth-led, food rescue program providing an effective and efficient solution to hunger, while addressing the serious and growing problem of food waste in Lebanon.
Working with strategic partners, including food and non-food companies, through recovering surplus food from events, organizing food drives, and fundraiser events to collect food (which includes surplus perishable food and non-perishable food items) and distribute it to local non-profit partners in need. Creating a nationwide sustainable network that connects relevant Socially Responsible Companies, such as restaurants, catering agencies and other food providers, with the Local Community, such as local citizens and NGOs, towards achieving our VISION of a hunger-free Lebanon. To this end, we focus on two major issues: food rescue and the CSR of food (and non-food) companies. Driven by the need to reduce hunger in Lebanon, in early 2013, foodblessed was awarded in 2013 the ‘CSR in Action' Award for the category ‘Best Social Project on CSR' by Al Ahli Group and Ecole Superior des Affairs. In over a year, foodblessed was able to benefit more than 4000 people in need and counting with zero cases of food poisoning, was able to partner with more than 70 partners, participate as well as speak about its model in a number of local and regional conferences, and also to raise more than $30, 000 in in-kind (food and cash) from its partnerships, fundraisers, and donations.
