PROJECT
The Atlas Mountains Rural Development project's approach is the one adopted in the framework of the National Strategy for the Development of Rural Areas and Mountainous Zones developed by the Ministry, and covers 18 rural communes across three provinces: Ouarzazate, Tinghir and Béni Mellal. The Project aims to contribute to reduce poverty by 30% by 2030 and to improve the living conditions of the rural population in mountain areas. Through capacity building of target populations, the program aims to improve their income through value chain upgrading, market access, sustainable management of natural resources and diversification of income sources. The program has first contributed to the development and enhancement of agricultural value chains through (i) The completion of maintenance and rehabilitation work on 170,000 apple trees; (ii)The realization of 12 training sessions for apple growers; (iii) The distribution of 1,135 sheep heads to 330 women members of 16 professional organizations.
