Overview:
This Regulation consisting of 27 articles, aims to regulate slaughtering and preparing livestock and poultry. ain provisions are (i) the Municipality is required to establish one or more slaughterhouses by itself in its scope or to entrust that to others according to the standard specifications provided that the environmental impact study is submitted for approval of the selection of the slaughterhouse (art.3); (ii) conditions to be met for the slaughter of cattle (art.4); (iii) the owner of livestock or the competent authority must inform the slaughterhouse doctor about the sick livestock or suspected to be sick in order to isolate them from the healthy livestock and slaughter them in a separate place (art.8); (iv) violence or cruelty shall not be used unnecessarily in the treatment of livestock and poultry while they are being transported or slaughtered in slaughterhouses, and it is not permissible to slaughter cattle and sheep in front of each other's sight (art.9); (v) to slaughter and prepare livestock and poultry, or to initiate any of the operations related to slaughter, it is necessary to obtain a license from the municipality, which is issued after the presentation of a health card issued by the Ministry of Health (art.12); (vi) meat slaughtered in slaughterhouses and imported fresh meat shall not be sold, offered for sale, or possessed for the purpose of sale, unless sealed with official stamps and inks approved for this purpose (art.21); and (vii) all slaughterhouses are subject to the supervision and control of the municipality, and any threat to public health constitutes an order to stop the activity (art.22).
