PROJECT
The majority of agricultural holdings in the Republic of North Macedonia have an area of less than two hectares, in contrast to agricultural holdings in the European Union whose average size is 16,6 ha. They are composed of several plots (about seven) – often spatially distant from each other and without access to irrigation and road infrastructure. The fragmentation, both of the ownership and of the use of agricultural land, is one of the biggest challenges for the agricultural sector in the country, which has negative effects on the productivity, competitiveness and efficiency of agricultural holdings and makes modernization and realization of economies of scale impossible.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT: the main goal of the project is to help farmers, owners of agricultural land and local rural communities to overcome the problems arising from the unfavorable structure of agricultural land as the main resource for economic activities in rural areas, with the aim of:to increase the competitiveness of agricultural production;to improve living conditions in rural areas ;to ensure sustainable use of natural resources.
