The first Digital Marathon of Coastal Communities, designed and organised by CIHEAM Bari, Coldiretti and the World Farmers Markets Coalition, took place on 21 November 2023. This global event, which involved the Asian, European and African continents, aimed to highlight the vital importance of the world's maritime communities on the occasion of the 27th World Fisheries Day.The Digital Marathon provided a valuable opportunity for coastal communities dedicated to sustainability to connect, inspire, and share successful experiences that can be replicated in other areas to address common issues.At the event, communities shared the good practices gathered through the FEED platform, covering topics such as the Impact of climate change on fishing activities and mitigation actions, Ecosystem approach to fisheries management, Economic diversification and Fish tourism.Sharing experiences across communities highlighted common challenges facing the global fisheries sector, including overfishing, environmental degradation and climate change, which threaten not only the sustainability of the sector's resources but also its social and economic fabric.
